Note to self…

When I eat like crap I…(………..)

What would you say to fill in the latter part of that sentence?

When I eat like crap I…?

  • keep eating more crap
  • don’t do anything productive
  • feel like crap
  • am bloated
  • break out in acne
  • avoid social outings with friends

The bullets above are just some of the things that can and DO happen to us when we eat like crap.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I think it is 100% acceptable to have days where you just DON’T GIVE A DARN and you eat the whole pizza, maybe even a big ice cream sundae or the bacon cheeseburger you have been craving (and fries–cause DUH). But, what I think is most important is the recognition or rather the awareness you have of your body that allows you to recognize that if you eat that food, you probably/most likely will NOT feel good afterward.

All aspects of life are best received when balanced. Nutrition, fitness, relationships, careers, vanity, friendships etc…

It is easy to become overly obsessed with something, and I am totally guilty of this as well.

My goal in sharing this quote “When you eat like crap, you feel like crap” is simply to try to share one of the biggest reasons why I am a proponent of clean eating.

I don’t count calories, or weigh my food, or only eat certain items, but I am very aware of how what I put in my body makes me feel.

I only choose to put good, nourishing, and wholesome foods into my body, because I am the best version of myself when I do so.

I guess what I am saying is, do yourself the solid of putting good fuel in your body and your body will reward you in remarkable ways.

When I eat like crap, I feel like crap!

and ain’t nobody got time for that!

7 Simple Ways to Eat Healthy

People often make things more difficult than they truly are. This is true in multiple aspects of life. However, making the decision to eat better and treat your body right isn’t always an easy thing to do.  As some would say, easier said than done…as they reach for the chips on the table at work while they have an apple and carrot sticks in their purse or backpack.

So we need to ask ourselves, are we making the decision to eat healthy more difficult than it truly is??

Maybe WE as individuals are motivated to make a healthy change for our life, but the temptations around us and our peers make it more difficult to live a healthy lifestyle?

I don’t know the answer to this question, but what I do know is that the decision to eat well can only be made by one person.

It is a choice that you make in your mind and in your heart, and hopefully you have people around you who support you and challenge you to be the best version of you possible.

I know that choosing the sugar snap peas and handful of almonds isn’t always the most fun. Especially when the hot cheetos, ice cream and pop-tarts are taunting you in every aisle of the grocery store, BUT what makes you feel better afterwards?

Be real with yourself

The cheetos taste damn good going down, but afterward???? Let’s be real, ya feel like complete s***!!!!

Whereas, the healthy veggies and nuts make you wanna get up and go kick some serious booty!

Okay, so here is a perfect scenario. You’ve been binging on McDonald’s, frozen yogurt, fried chicken, chinese food, and soda all week. So ya, ya feel like death, and you’ve probably gained a bit of weight (not muscle i might add). Suddenly a thought comes to mind

“Damn I really need to get my eating back under control.”

who’s had that very thought run through their mind?? are you nodding right now? yup, thought so. cause guess what, so am I…

Listen, I know that it can be tough, but at the very least I wanted to share 7 simple ways that you can start eating healthier TODAY!

Take charge of your health. You only get one body, so love it, respect it, and fuel it with the proper foods. You won’t be sorry you did.

  2. Include some protein, carbs, and fat at every meal

I truly believe that these 7 simple steps will lead you closer to your health goals.

You are beautiful, strong, and capable.

You are in control of your choices.

Maybe starting tomorrow, try even just one or two of these tips 🙂

6 Reasons You Should Workout In The Morning

One of my most dreaded and most favorite thing to do is workout in the morning. The alarm goes off at 5:15am and you think to yourself “F***! what am I doing with my life???!” Come on, you know I’m right…but I swear to you-do NOT snooze that alarm because your body will thank you SO much more for getting up early and crushing that early AM workout.

Here are a couple of reasons why working out early in the morning is great for you:

  1. Boosts Metabolism

  2. Improves Mood

  3. You’ll WANT to eat healthy stuff afterward

  4. You’ll feel less stressed when you get to work

  5. You’ll have nothing to dread the rest of the day

  6. You COULD burn more FAT

I like to go to the gym for the 5:45 am spin class, but sometimes I just can’t bring myself to drive to the gym that early so this at home workout is perfect in those instances 🙂

Try it – I promise, you won’t regret it

Happy Sweating!

Daily Inspiration

I really wanted to share this verse from 1 Corinthians that talks about love. Not only is today February 14th, aka Valentine’s Day, but this verse has been on my mind a lot recently.

What is the first thing you do every morning? You shut off your alarm and maybe you smile and greet the day, maybe you groan and snooze the alarm for 2 more minutes, maybe you snuggle up next to your significant other, or maybe you jump out of bed because you are already running late.

Think about that. Think about those actions. Sure they may be mundane and seem completely ordinary, but might they also be actions we take that could be taken and done with greater love?

I think so.

It can be difficult, but I like to try to wake up every morning with a grateful heart. I get another day to walk on this beautiful earth. Another day to hang out with my family, friends and boyfriend. Another day to set goals and achieve them. Another day to cook and eat the most delicious foods. Let all that you do be done in love.

I also think that this verse holds great truth when it comes to our personal health, fitness journeys and goals. When you really dig deep and ask yourself why you want to be healthy, fit, strong, and well-balanced, what is the reason? I know for a fact that one reason is because you respect your body. You know that you were given this vessel and you are going to treat it well. Let all that you do be done in love.

Relationships? People who struggle with relationships with friends or their families or even for the sake of my blog, healthy-ishh, relationships with food. Why do you struggle? I encourage you to pause and evaluate where these inner demons or obstacles you face come from. Can you tackle those challenges with love? I think you can. Wait, I know you can.

Let all that you do be done in love.

The next meeting you are in, or the next time you get road rage, ask yourself if the way you are reacting is loving. Okay, I know, easier said than done. However, the first step towards living a more loving life is being mindful and aware of our actions and how those actions may be received. So, please, remember, let all that you do be done in love. I promise, your heart will be full and so will the hearts of those around you.

Benefits of Coconut Oil

There are many benefits to using coconut oil! Similarly, there are many different ways it can be utilized. For example, you can apply it topically, you can cook with it, or you can use it in DIY body lotions, scrubs etc. Coconut oil has become increasingly popular in the past few years and I am a huge proponent of using this amazing substance!

I like to use coconut oil in lieu of butter in many recipes, or as a non-stick cook spray, and I always keep a jar of hardened coconut oil on hand to use as a natural moisturizer!

In the fun infographic below, I have listed some of the proven benefits of coconut oil. While, I only listed 8, there are many more! Some that I left out include: Coconut oil helps convert bad cholesterols into good cholesterols, it may help with stress relief, weight loss, diabetes (may improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance), may help alleviate gallbladder disease or Crohn’s disease, help with anti-aging, and is one of the best ways to provide nutrients to your hair! Yes girls, apply coconut oil to those roots! The fatty acids in the oil will deeply condition from the insides of the strands out.

If you aren’t already using coconut oil in your daily life, I highly recommend that you run to the store and pick up a jar of this amazing healing, natural medicine.
